Olympic Games:The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) has appointed a three-person appeals tribunal to adjudicate on Catriona Cuddihy's appeal against a decision by Athletics Ireland to replace her on the six-strong 4x400 metres relay team for the London Games.
Cuddihy was initially named in the squad, but was replaced by Joanna Mills after she successfully appealed here case for inclusion to Athletics Ireland (AI).
The OCI tribunal will take place on Thursday and will be chaired by executive member Susan Ahern and also includes honorary secretary Dermot Sherlock and first vice-president William O’Brien
Today’s statement from the IOC confirms that a final decision will be delivered no later than Monday July 23rd. It also points out that both athletes are still entered for the Games.
In the meantime, the names of both athletes involved have been entered on the Olympic Games registration system in London. One entry will be withdrawn following the OCI’s Appeals Tribunal decision.
Athletics Ireland have been asked for full clarification of their relay selection process, and why they first named Cuddihy among the six-woman team two weeks ago, only then to replace her with Mills, who successfully appealed this original selection.
