Ten years down the line, the best little comedy club in the land, Dublin's Comedy Cellar is as funtastic as ever. Despite having no microphone, no changing room and no sponsorship (very principled in these days of major brewery investment), the Cellar at The International Bar on Wicklow Street is still the boss man. Founded by those naughty DCU students Mr Trellis (Barry Muprhy, Ardal O'Hanlon and the charming Kevin Gildea), the venue has over the years been a hothouse for up and coming talent. Never mind the odd Perrier winner like Dylan Moran starting his career there or Eddie Izzard playing a now legendary gig there, plenty more has passed through too: Tommy Tiernan would always drop in when down from Galway and Murphy, O'Hanlon and Gildea still do the odd solo gig there. The regular MC these days is Dublin comic Paddy Courtney, a cheeky chappie sort of performer whose quick-fire material and jaunty delivery always make him a crowd pleaser. Go along next Wednesday night and check Paddy Courtney out, along with a bevy of other talented young jokesters. Recommended.
