Offaly put an end to Cork's unbeaten league run in the NHL with a three point victory (2-17 to 1-17) over the Munster outfit in Birr today.
The home side settled well and some sturdy defending left the Cork attackers out in the cold.
But despite dominating the opening period - Offaly led by eight with 10 minutes of the half remaining - they allowed Cork reduce that advantage shortly before the interval. Offaly led by four points at half-time.
Cork started the second half as they finished the first and levelled the game on 51 minutes; Joe Deane, twice, Jason Barrett and Eoin Fitzgerald kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Offaly restored their lead when Damian Murray found the net but Alan Browne did likewise for Cork minutes later to ensure a tense finish.
But Offaly pulled clear with 10 minutes to play and sealed the victory with a late Brian Carroll goal.
