Offaly's Pat Roe is the latest senior football manager to step down after their comprehensive 5-19 to 2-10 defeat at the hands of Down in this weekend's first round of SFC qualifiers at O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

Roe was two years into the job but let county board chairman Pat Teehan know that he didn't intend seeing out a third year.

The former Carlow and Wexford manager becomes the fourth manager to step down in less than three days.

Donal Keoghan stepped down as Cavan football manager earlier today, while Longford boss Luke Dempsey and Meath manager Colm Coyle both quit following defeats in their respective qualifiers.

Cavan's last-minute defeat to Kildare was the final straw for Keoghan who had been at the helm for two years.

In a disappointing season the Breffni County were also relegated to the National League Division Three this year.

The Royal County lost their football qualifier 4-12 to 4-03 against underdogs Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds - arguably the biggest upset of the round.

Laois denied Longford by two points at Pearse Park on Saturday evening, prompting Dempsey to step down.
