An oil laundering plant which could have caused a loss to the Revenue Commissioners of €10 to €12 million per annum was raided by customs officers and gardaí in Co Louth this morning.

The plant had the capacity to wash 50,000 litres of oil per day. Discovered at the scene was 80,000 litres of oil at various stages of washing along with a number of vehicles.

Approximately 12,000 litres of waste material was found in one of the vehicles. The Louth County Council environment officer has been notified.

In a statement the Revenue Commissioners said no arrests had been made.
