The Government is expected to call on the Houses of the Oireachtas to indemnify a legal case by two politicians against the Morris tribunal after it decided against supporting the action.

Senator Jim Higgins of Fine Gael and the Labour TD, Mr Brendan Howlin, have been ordered to disclose confidential information to the tribunal, which is investigating allegations of corruption by some members of the Garda in Co Donegal.

The Cabinet yesterday decided against indemnifying the two politicians, despite indications in recent weeks that it would support the case.

Mr Howlin and Mr Higgins last night expressed disappointment with the decision, saying they would bring their case to the attention of the Dáil and Seanad Committees of Procedure and Privileges. The committees are expected to discuss the case soon, possibly today or tomorrow.
