Mary Banotti MEP wasn't at the September session in Strasbourg, as she was at home hitting the presidential election trail. Many other Irish MEPs were at home during the week, attending vital parliamentary party meetings to choose or promote their election candidates.
The presidential candidates have quite a European flavour: an MEP, a Eurovision song contest winner, and a European "Woman of the year"; and a professor of constitutional law will surely be familiar with EU law.
