At least one person is feared dead in a shooting at a US college - the third in a week.

The shooting happened at Broward Community College, near Fort Lauderdale, in south Florida, and left at least one other person seriously injured.

Police and ambulance crews converged on the college after reports of the shooting.

There was no official confirmation of the death from police in the area, which is just north of Miami.

The injured person was taken to hospital with paramedics administering heart massage.

The shooting follows the death of three people, two of them lecturers, at a small law school in the town of Grundy, in Virginia, on Wednesday.

The alleged gunman, Mr Peter Odighizuwa, said "I was sick" as he appeared in court following the deaths.

On Tuesday two students at Martin Luther King High School in central New York were shot and injured in an incident which police are treating as gang-related.
