One man remains in custody in Dublin this morning as gardai investigate a major drug trafficking operation launched following the discovery of the body of an Irishman in a fridge in Portugal on Thursday night.
Two other men and a woman who were arrested following a series of raids on Friday night were released without charge last night. A number of files are expected to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardai recovered drugs with a street value of well over one million euros during raids in various parts of Dublin on Friday.
The operation was mounted after police in the Algarve holiday region discovered the body in the fridge in an apartment on Thursday during an investigation into the activities of an international drugs gang.
The gang is said to have connections in London, Spain and Portugal. The dead man is understood to be a 37-year-old from Cork. He was named in some papers today as Michael Ahern.
A garda spokesman said the operation was being run by the Garda National Drugs Unit who were liaising with the authorities in Portugal.
