An Irish and Spanish fire-fighting team are tonight continuing their efforts to extinguish a fire which broke out on a Spanish fishing vessel about 100 miles off Dingle Bay on the Cork coast, the Irish Coast Guard said.
The fire broke just after 2 p.m. on the vessel, the Galaxia, which had a crew of 12 onboard.
The Valentia Lifeboat and the LE Aoife, along with another Spanish vessel, are assisting to put out the fire, the Irish Coast Guard said.
It is expected a decision will be made tomorrow on whether to tow the vessel to Irish ashores when an assessment is made of the damage.
A five-man firefighting crew accompanied by two of the Galaxiacrew reported that the fire in the accommodation area of vessel is under control.
But the wheelhouse/accommodation of the vessel which still has engine power is filled with smoke.
The remaining ten crew members have been evacuated onto the Valentia Lifeboat and there have been no reports of any injuries to the crew members.
