. A plenary summons has been issued against an unnamed bank for £1,455,988 by the Department of Tourism and Trade in an attempt to recover payments made to it by the State in 1990. On the advice of the Attorney General, £1.83 million was paid to the bank then. It followed an exporter going into receivership in January, 1990, with £2.3 million outstanding to the bank. Investigations later revealed serious irregularities in the exporter's transactions. Following legal advice, the State proceeded against the bank on the grounds of negligence.
