The Fine Gael leader, Mr John Bruton, TD, said he heartily welcomed the outcome of the Belfast talks.
The Labour leader, Mr Ruairi Quinn, congratulated the Taois each and Prime Minister and the parties for all the hard work they put in this week, and said he hoped the proposals could be implemented successfully.
"The people of Northern Ireland and the Republic have a burning desire for a lasting peace, and it is imperative that everybody in this process ensures that the proposed agreement works to the benefit of every citizen on this island."
