A South African passenger train hit a derailed freight train today, injuring 102 passengers.
Thirteen of the freight train's wagons, which were laden with coal, left the tracks and several had flipped over on the tracks, said Ms Bintu Petsana, a spokeswoman for Spoornet, the state-owned company that owns the train.
A passenger train that was travelling behind the freight train then drove into stationery carriages, and its engine and five of its coaches derailed.
The accident occurred near the station at Meyerton, about 34 miles south of Johannesburg.
