Over 30 people were injured last night when a hotel ceiling collapsed on them in Co Kildare.

Over 30 people were injured last night when a hotel ceiling collapsed on them in Co Kildare.

The incident took place in the Setanta House Hotel in Celbridge when a part of the ceiling caved in at around 8.30 p.m.

Among those injured were the bride and groom at a reception for 130 people.

It was one of two wedding receptions in the hotel yesterday. A teenagers disco was also being held upstairs.

Eight people brought to Naas General Hospital for minor injuries. They have since been discharged.

Six people were brought to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown.

One man is understood to have a broken hip. The other five were released.

Gardaí and health and safety officials are inspecting the hotel premises today.
