The sale of Army barracks is expected to make the State more than £50 million, according to the Minister for Defence, Mr Smith.

Replying to a Dail question from Mr Bernard Allen TD (FG), the Minister said that the sale of six barracks was currently progressing. The barracks are in Fermoy, Ballincollig, Naas, Kildare, Castleblayney and Dublin (Clancy Barracks).

Mr Smith said that the former Devoy Barracks in Naas comprised an area of approximately 22 acres. He had agreed to sell 14 acres, which are zoned for housing, to Naas UDC for £7 million.
