THE CAPUCHIN Day Centre on Bow Street has been providing food for the homeless for some four decades.
It provides 120 breakfasts and more than 350 dinners daily, free of charge, for those in need.
Founded by Brother Kevin Crowley in the late 1960s to respond to the needs of those calling to the friary door seeking help, these days the centre also offers medical clinics, advice, food parcels, clothing and other day care facilities. It does so with the aim of relieving the hardship of those who are socially excluded and living on the margins.
All are welcome at the Capuchin Day Centre, where the policy is to receive all comers without asking questions.
While Government funding covers the centre's administrative expenses, the food cost for the close to 500 hot meals provided daily is collected from private donations and fundraising activities, with volunteers assisting in its distribution.
