Overseas trips by Irish residents fell by 10.5 per cent during the first four months of the year, the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows. The number of trips abroad during the period was 2,119,200 compared with 2,367,300 between January and April last year.
Trips abroad by Irish residents during April fell by 4.2 per cent to 579,400 compared with the same month last year. The figure represents a 7.9 per cent drop in the numer of trips taken abroad in the first four months of 2008.
Overseas trips to Ireland also fell by 6.3 per cent to 2,010,000 during the first four months of the year.
