About 30 per cent of the owners of a faulty tumble-dryer have not yet contacted Zanussi, following a warning that the appliance could catch fire. Zanussi issued a warning and safety notice about the tumble-dryer, model TD 4212 W, last weekend.
A quality-control programme had discovered that the appliance could overheat under certain circumstances. The notice asked owners to "please stop using the appliance immediately and remove the plug from the electrical socket". They are asked to contact the company by phone (1890 220 420), by e-mail, service.eid@electrolux.ie or by fax at 1800 512 100.
According to a company spokeswoman, about 900 of these models had been sold in Ireland and more than 200 more were with dealerships. She said 70 per cent of owners had contacted the company by yesterday and Zanussi was now seeking contact details of the remaining owners from the dealerships.
She said the company should be able to make contact with them within the next 10 days. Owners of the tumble-dryers were still contacting the company daily.
The spokeswoman emphasised that this was not a product recall and the company was sending out service engineers to carry out modifications to the appliance.
The safety notice did not affect any other Zanussi tumble-dryer or appliance, she added.
