There is kissing, hugging and cheering at the awards ceremony in Vicar Street. "We're all the nerdy-involved types," says Conor Feeney, of Piranah, the TCD satirical mag, which is one of the nominees in the Oxygen National Student Media Awards.
Many are ready for the glare of the limelight. Audrey McGrath in a gold crochet dress and Dyane Connor in a scarlet number win the best radio station of the year award for Cork Campus Radio. The station's prize is accepted by Kieran Hurley. Nessa McGann from Limerick is here to cheer on Wired FM, which picks up the comedy award. Emmet Mullally from Belcoo, Co Fermanagh is pleased as punch because Uforia, which is distributed across the University of Ulster's four campuses, is awarded best publication layout.
Mary Dempsey, field manager for Oxygen, who travels around the country to the various college campuses, is delighted with the night. It's packed with up to 700 students from all over. The awards, organised by the youth website, oxygen.ie, are to celebrate and promote work produced by Ireland's third-level media stars.
TCD student Jean O'Mahoney, who gets the journalist of the year award, is here with her boyfriend, Jonathan Legge. More TCD bods include Dan Stewart and John Paul Lynham - watch out for them when they travel to Edinburgh Festival this summer.
