WORKERS laid off by Packard Electric as part of its restructuring last year will hold a meeting at the plant in Tallaght next Wednesday to protest against continuing uncertainty about their future.
The 290 workers were laid off pending a decision on their future which is due today. This was part of a deal to secure the future of the plant brokered with the help of the Department of Enterprise and Employment last year. However, a week ago local management told the unions that it would not have sufficient information on the company's future plans to be able to meet today's deadline, according to ATGWU general secretary Mr Mick O'Reilly.
The protest on Wednesday would not be a picket, and would not disrupt production, he added.
