ISLAMABAD - The woman at the centre of a dramatic court decision in Pakistan has gone missing just hours after deciding to leave a refuge where she has spent the last 11 months.
Ms Saima Waheed became a symbol for the triumph of true love last week when the High Court in Lahore turned down her father's attempts to have her marriage declared invalid, because she had gone against his wishes, and had not obeyed him according to what he said was Islamic teaching.
Although the court said she was free to join her husband Mr Arshad Ahmad, she initially decided to remain living at a women's refuge where she had been a ward of court for the duration of her case, saying she was afraid for her life. She said she was continuing to receive threats from her father and from conservative Islamic groups who back him.
