Gardai have appealed for information about a man who tied up a Pakistani woman and her two daughters and sexually assaulted one of the girls at their home in south-west Dublin on Tuesday evening.

The man broke into the house at Daletree Road, Ballycullen, near Rathfarnham, where the women, who are all studying in Dublin, live. The man threatened the women with a knife and handcuffed the mother. He used leather straps to tie the teenage girls' hands and began to cut the clothing off one of them. Gardai said the man tried to sexually assault the girl, but the women's screams alerted neighbours, and the attacker left. None of the women was badly hurt, although they were very shocked.

The man was described as between 25 and 30 and 5 ft 10 in to 6 ft. He spoke with a strong Dublin accent. He wore denim jeans and a brown or fawn jumper. He had a woollen hat pulled down over his ears.
