A 10-year-old Palestinian girl was killed in north Gaza today by what witnesses said was an apparent misfiring of a rocket that militants had aimed at Israel.
The girl was outside her house in the northern Gaza refugee camp of Jabalya, a frequent scene of Israeli raids and a militant stronghold, when she was hit by an errant rocket, local medics said. Witnesses said her brother was also wounded. There was no comment by any of the militant groups.
Some rockets were fired from north Gaza into Israel today but they caused no casualties or serious damage.
Earlier reports by Jabalya residents said the girl had been hit by an Israeli tank shell but these were denied by an army spokeswoman, who said that there was no military action going on in the region at the time.
