A Palestinian militant threw an explosive device at Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint in the West Bank city of Hebron today, a Palestinian security source and witnesses said.
The army had no immediate comment and Israel's ZAKA emergency service said there were no immediate reports of casualties at the roadblock, located near the Tomb of the Patriarchs, a site holy to Muslims and Jews.
Palestinian witnesses said Israeli forces later surrounded a house in Hebron and then detained four Palestinians. No militant group claimed responsibility for the blast.
About 400 Jewish settlers live among more than 120,000 Palestinians in Hebron, a frequent flashpoint in the West Bank, which Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
