`The panto of the century" is how Cork Opera House describes its traditional panto, Aladdin, which opens next Tuesday and runs until mid-January. Written and directed by Michael Twomey, the man responsible for so many of the Opera House's panto successes. Billa, one of the country's outstanding panto Dames, leads the cast as the Widow Twanky. With special effects including the renowned magic lamp and a creepy cave, good finally triumphs over evil when Aladdin defeats the wicked magician and wins the hand of the Emperor's daughter, played by Shirley McCarthy.
