Examiner Publications Ltd (EPL), publishers of the Irish Examiner, has undertaken before the High Court not to disclose the whereabouts of a person relocated under the witness protection programme and whose life is said to be under threat.
EPL gave the undertakings yesterday.
The Attorney General, Mr Michael McDowell, had on April 26th last obtained an interim High Court injunction to that effect against the company.
The interim order, returnable to yesterday, restrained EPL from making inquiries or taking any steps within or outside the State for the purpose of discovering the whereabouts of a person whom it knew or reasonably suspected to be a relocated witness under Section 40 (1) of the 1999 Criminal Justice Act.
