The parents of a Dublin man who died while undergoing cosmetic surgery in Colombia have asked the High Court to overturn an open verdict returned at the inquest into his death and to order a new inquest.
Pierre Christian Lawlor (33,) Stepaside, but originally from Lucan, Co Dublin, died in September 2007 at a centre in Bogota while undergoing cosmetic procedures including liposuction.
He was holidaying in Colombia with his wife and their young son when he arranged to undergo the operation, the court heard.
His wife said he consumed cocaine and alcohol in the days prior to the procedures despite being told by the clinic not to consume such substances 48 hours before surgery. An inquest was held here in July 2008 and the jury returned an open verdict.
Tom and Margaret Lawlor later initiated judicial review proceedings arguing it proceeded in the absence of medical notes from the Colombian clinic relating to treatment of their son.
