The parents of Swiss student Manuela Riedo, whose body was discovered on waste ground at Lough Atalia, Co Galway last October, will this morning visit the place where her body was found.
Hans and Arlette Riedo arrived in Galway yesterday, and began retracing the final footsteps of their only child.
The 17-year-old student was killed in October just two days after arriving in Galway with a group of 40 students to spend a fortnight learning English.
Her mother, Arlette Riedo, will this morning place a single rose at the place near Lough Atalia where Manuela died.
The parents promised at her funeral in October that they would visit Galway and see where their daughter spent her final days. They are visiting Galway at the invitation of the Garda, and a spokesman pointed out that it was a private affair.
"The purpose of the visit is to meet gardaí about the investigation into their daughter's murder.
"They have asked that their visit be regarded as private and that they be allowed to grieve," the spokesman added.
He added that, following numerous media inquiries, Mr and Mrs Riedo would make a brief statement this morning.
A Galway man, Gerald Barry (28), is currently on remand at Castlerea prison charged with Manuela's killing.
The trial is expected to take place this year.
