A paris hotel is offering tourists a drive over the last route Diana, Princess of Wales, took, ending at the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
For even more authenticity, the Hotel Odeon even offers tours in a black Mercedes, the same make of car Diana crashed in nearly a year ago.
The tour goes first to the Hotel Ritz in the Place Vendome, where Diana got into the limousine with her boyfriend, Mr Dodi Fayed, driver Mr Henri Paul and bodyguard Mr Trevor Rees-Jones on August 31st, 1997. It then takes the route along the River Seine, where Mr Paul drove at high speed to try to evade photographers, and stops at the Place de l'Alma. Underneath is the Pont de l'Alma tunnel, where the Mercedes crashed into a pillar. The visit ends outside the PitieSalpetriere Hospital on the Left Bank, where Diana was pronounced dead. Mr Fayed and Mr Paul also were killed.
"People can say what they like about it, but there is such huge demand for this kind of thing," said the Odeon's manager, Mr Emile Cacciari. Mr Cacciari said the money made from the tours would be given to the Diana Foundation. There was no immediate comment from foundation officials.
Meanwhile, an Austrian-born American is to go on trial at the end of September in Vienna for trying to sell fake documents to Mr Mohammed al-Fayed. Mr Oswald LeWinter (67) contacted Mr al-Fayed offering to sell him for $15 million documents purporting to prove that the Pont de l'Alma crash was engineered by the British secret service and the CIA.
