Party service successes

. APERITIF: Carrington Brut (widely available, £7

. APERITIF: Carrington Brut (widely available, £7.99) with a dash of Framboise Liqueur and a vital raspberry for the bottom of each glass are the elements of Frank's sparkling pink speciality. Festive and splendid for the garden party season.

. WHITE WINES: Cecilia Beretta Chardonnay Petillaat NV (Vintry, Foleys Cabinteely, Fagans Phibsboro, Old Stand Mullingar and other outlets, £5.99). Bubbles at a budget price a gently effervescent north Italian Chardonnay, appley and refreshing.

. Louis Jadot Bourgogne Blanc Couvent des Jacobins 1994 (McCabes, Vineyard Galway, Wine Vaults Lismore and some other outlets, £8.99). This crisp, well balanced white Burgundy from Jadot a negociant who rarely disappoints beats the socks off many a Chablis at a much stiffer price. See Bottle of the Week.

. Beringer Fume Blanc 1994 (Redmonds, Vintry, Lord Mayors Swords, Mill Wine Cellar, Galvins Cork and other outlets, about £8.50). The toasted oak used to mature this super Californian Sauvignon Blanc makes it the ideal match for light barbecued food fish, chicken or trendy Mediterranean vegetables. A perfect fusion of charred flavours.

. RED WINES: J.P. Tinto NV (widely available, usually £3.99). The Portuguese red which featured among the wine column's Christmas party recommendations is one of the most popular wines Frank Harrison serves. A great food wine for feeding the five thousand situations.

. Librandi Ciro Rosso (Findlaters, Verlings, Redmonds, SuperValu Deansgrange & Raheny and other outlets, £5.99). From sunny Calabria on Italy's toe, another great value partner for gutsy food spicy, juicy and packed with personality.

. Classic Pinot Noir Dealul Mare Region (Superquinn and many other outlets, £4.99). Not restrained, elegant and frighteningly expensive Pinot, as in Burgundy, but the exuberantly fruity Romanian version at a knockdown price. Light, easy drinking particularly good with chicken (especially coq au vin cooked therein!).

. Karanga Hill Grenache/Shiraz NV (Mitchells £6.90). Frank Harrison watched cases of this disappear to universal approval at a recent wedding party with an outdoor grill. Light and luscious with cherry and blackberry fruit flavours and a nice bit of bite in the finish.
