Passengers evacuated after Luas crash

Passengers were today evacuated from a Luas tram after another crash involving a car this afternoon.

The tram was travelling from St Stephen's Green to Sandyford and at around 12.50pm it collided at with a Ford Mondeo car at Clonmel Street.

The front bumper of the car was torn off by the impact, and the engine was damaged. Two glass panels in the door at the front of the tram were smashed and passengers had to wait on board until staff from Luas operator Connex arrived to force the door open.

There were no injuries. The Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene.
