St Patrick's Athletic 3 Sporting Fingal 1: FAI Cup holders Sporting Fingal have been knocked out of the competition in the quarter-finals by St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park.
The Inchicore side went into the game having won just twice in their last nine and were without long-term injuries Gareth Coughlan or Paul Byrne, the suspended David McAllister and the cup-tied pair of Garret O’Connor and Chris Bennion.
Fingal, who were denied Shane McFaul and Sean Maher through injury, fell behind two a Ryan Guy strike in the 22nd minute after the American robbed and Kenny Browne who dallied too long on the ball and paid the price.
Pat’s took their lead into the second half and doubled it seven minutes after the restart when Damien Lynch headed home a corner, but their lead was reduced just a minute later when Shaun Williams’s stunning strike found the top corner.
Substitute Glen Crowe thought he’d levelled the scores with his first touch but his header was ruled out for foul play and the game was put to bed with minutes by Vinny Faherty.
Sligo Rovers face Monaghan United in the final quarter-final this evening.
