RACING:Smart filly Anna Pavlova gets her season underway in the Ennistown Stud EBF Salsabil Stakes at Navan on Sunday.

Richard Fahey's charge performed consistently last year, with her best performance coming when just touched off in the Group Two Park Hill Stakes at York.

While Fahey concedes Anna Pavlova will not be fully wound up for her seasonal debut, the Malton handler hopes she has enough class to see off her rivals.

He said: "It looks an ideal race for her to be fair — it looks the most suitable race for her throughout the whole year.

"She is not going there 100% but with a bit of luck she won't have to be, she should be good enough anyway.

"She loves soft ground. I would have liked to have had another two weeks with her but I haven't had it.

"She's still going though and we'll see what happens.

"With regards to the rest of the season we'll play it by ear. The ground is vital to her, she must have some give so that restricts us to where we can take her in the summer.

"The only time she disappointed last season was at Newbury and it was quick ground. She did win on good to firm as a two-year-old but as she's got older, she needs give.

"She's only 90 per cent but out of the whole year this is the race that fits her ideally."
