Grant aid of almost €1 million has been allocated to 48 groups involved in peace initiatives and cross-Border projects. The allocations, totalling €912,300, were made by the Department of Foreign Affairs' Reconciliation Fund.

The largest grant of €75,000 was given to Co-operation Ireland, the all-island agency which runs a number of cross-Border programmes. A US-established organisation which runs cross-community basketball programmes received €20,000.

A cross-community Louth company, New Border Generation, received €70,000 while the Pat Finucane Centre for Human Rights and Social Change in Derry received €20,000.

In Cavan, the Mullaghboy Accordion Band received €7,500 for its work in facilitating people from both religious backgrounds to play traditional music together.

The Catholic Holy Cross boys primary school and the Protestant Ballygolan primary school in north Belfast received €10,000 for their joint educational project which links children from different communities.

Since 1999, more than 400 groups have received grants exceeding €12.3 million from the Reconciliation Fund.
