Pedestrian killed in M1 motorway crash

A man was killed early this morning when he was knocked down on the M1 motorway in Co Louth.

A man was killed early this morning when he was knocked down on the M1 motorway in Co Louth.

The incident, which happened at around 3.45am between the Monasterboice and Slane exits, involved two cars and a pedestrian.

The victim, who was in his late teens, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was dead on arrival.

The occupants of the cars were taken to hospital and later released.

Gardaí in Drogheda are investigating the crash, which led to the road being closed between Monasterboice and Drogheda for several hours this morning. It has now reopened.
