Olympics - Sailing: Ciara Peelo will not contest tomorrow's medal race in the Laser Radial Class after failing to fight her way into the all-important top 10 during this morning's final three races on the Yellow Sea.

With the fixtures piling up at the Quingdao venue due to numerous postponements and cancellations over the weekend, the Malahide sailor went into the rescheduled final four races well down the pecking order.

Only top five finishes would suffice, and in reality even that would have been unlikely to see her through. In the event, only three races were possible today - the 10th and final leg of the series cancelled - and results of 25th, 18th and 10th left Peelo 20th in the overall standings.

The top 10 will fight it out for the medals tomorrow morning with America's Anna Tunnicliffe enjoying a seven point lead.

In the Star Class, Stephen Milne and Peter O'Leary were unable to threaten the leaders in their three races today and also languish outside the top 10 in 14th.

Britain's Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson jumped into overall first place, one point ahead of Sweden, after finishing eighth and sixth before claiming victory in race seven.
