Pensioners targeted in five robberies in Co Antrim

Five elderly pensioners have been robbed in their homes in separate incidents within five hours in Co Antrim.

Five elderly pensioners have been robbed in their homes in separate incidents within five hours in Co Antrim.

The latest incidents follow similar robberies last week in Belfast and Co Down and police believe some of them may be linked.

The robberies began at about 5pm on Monday when a 74-year-old woman was confronted by four men at her home in Ballinderry who demanded cash. They stole £1,500 (€2,225) worth of jewellery and damaged her home. Police have appealed for information on a green Rover car seen in the area about the time of the incident.

In Glengormley, on the outskirts of north Belfast, four young robbers broke into the home of an 81-year-old man before ransacking it and leaving with a sum of money.

An 86-year-old man was also robbed when two men entered his house on Leathemstown Road in Crumlin at about 6.30pm. The man was assaulted and his wallet stolen. The victim told police his attackers had been smartly dressed.

Two masked men used a sledgehammer to break into the home of a 68-year-old car dealer in Crumlin at about 10.15pm. He was threatened at gunpoint and the contents of his safe were taken.

A short time later, four men forced their way into the home of a 91-year-old woman at Glenavy Road, Crumlin. They took money and jewellery.
