Tiggy Legge-bourke (31) is with the Windsors on the slopes of Klosters

Tiggy Legge-bourke (31) is with the Windsors on the slopes of Klosters. Since the death of Prin- cess Diana, Tiggy - dubbed a surrogate mother for Prince William (15) and Prince Harry (13) after their parents' marriage break-up - has been close at hand.

Last year in Klosters, she was overshadowed by the fashion-conscious Tara Palmer- Tomkinson (26). The two find themselves skiing partners again this year but Tiggy has now resumed a central role in the lives of the princes. Palmer-Tomkinson is often portrayed as a frivolous airhead, only interested in "dresses to die for", fashion designers and fast cars. Jokes at her expense include the claim - which she denies - that she asked a Life Guards officer which beach he worked at.

Britain's Foreign Secretary Robin Cook (51) has bought a £600 diamond ring for his partner, according to the Sun.

He gave the ring to Gaynor Regan (41), his secretary, on Christmas Day. Cook has left Margaret, his wife of 28 years. He insists it is not an engagement ring, the newspaper says.

Richard Branson sent a message of good luck to balloonist Steve Fossett, who is over the Atlantic attempting to circumnavigate the world non-stop - but warned him that he still expects to win the record.

He is confident that Fossett, who has set off on his third attempt from the US, will not be able to cope with the long hours and dangers of a non-stop solo voyage. Along with co-pilots Per Lindstrand and Rory McCarthy, Branson is planning another attempt in the Virgin Global Challenger this month.
