Police are to interview Princess Caroline of Monaco after her companion, Prince Ernst August of Hanover, allegedly beat up a television journalist. The journalist suffered a broken nose and other head injuries.

The prince (43) clashed with the journalist on Saturday evening as he and Princess Caroline (40) were leaving a fundraising dinner at one of his properties in Monaco.

The chief executive of News Corporation, Rupert Murdoch, has been honoured by the Catholic Church in a ceremony recognising philanthropists in southern California.

He was among 67 mostly Catholic men and women who were named Knights or Dames of St Gregory the Great, an honour named after Pope Gregory XVI, who created the Diocese of California in the 19th century.

Murdoch, who displays topless women in his tabloids and airs racy shows on the US Fox television network, was cited for his donations to a church education foundation.

His wife Anna is a Catholic and serves as a trustee for the Good Shepherd Parish in Beverly Hills. Other non-Catholics honoured include Bob Hope, his wife Dolores and Roy Disney, vice chairman of the Walt Disney Company.

Seinfeld has won the People's Choice Award for Favourite Comedy Television Series, just three weeks after Jerry Seinfeld announced he was ending its nine-year run.

Tim Allen won his eighth People's Choice Award amid speculation he would follow Seinfeld's lead and end his series Home Improvement to return to stand-up comedy.

McGregor, who played a drug addict in Trainspotting, will be in Singapore this weekend to shoot Rogue Trader in which he plays Leeson. The $12 million production is based on the autobiography Leeson wrote while in a Frankfurt jail awaiting extradition to Singapore.
