The Spice Girls were last night said to be "sticking to each other like glue" as reports of an impending split apparently brought them closer. The five put on a united front with an impromptu concert on the balcony of their Rome hotel as hundreds of noisy fans cheered below.

"The girls are closer than they have ever been following the recent bad publicity," claimed their newly-appointed publicity boss, Alan Edwards.

Prince Charles is "highly unlikely" to attend the funeral of his close friend, Lady "Kanga" Tryon, according to one of her advisers. Lady Tryon (49) died in the intensive care unit of the London Clinic on Saturday after contracting septicaemia, following a minor operation last week.

Lady Tryon suffered immense pain for much of her life, battling against cancer. In September, she was divorced by her husband, Lord Tryon, who said she had caused him "stress-related illness".

Princess Diana's butler, Paul Burrell, whom she described as "my rock", is to help choose the permanent memorial to her.

Burrell flew to Paris to help make her funeral arrangements. Now he is to join a special committee deciding what would be the most appropriate monument.

A series of spectacular stained glass windows in the newly-renovated Windsor Castle is based on sketches by Prince Philip. The set of six windows appear in the royal family's private chapel which, along with the rest of the castle, is unveiled today after five years of extensive repair work.
