"Posh Spice" Victoria Adams has been forced to make a payment to UK customs after she failed to declare the engagement ring she bought for Manchester United star David Beckham in the United States.

The 23-year-old star bought the £50,000 diamond encrusted six-carat gold ring at exclusive jewellery store Van Cleef and Arpels on Rodeo Drive, Hollywood, when the group was in the US for the premiere of the Spice Girls' film Spiceworld last month.

It is understood Adams has been fined £3,000 after customs officials from Manchester airport spotted the ring in photographs of her with Beckham soon after he had proposed.

The photos were taken at a Cheshire hotel when the couple announced their engagement to the world on January 25th. Yesterday a source at Customs and Excise in London said: "She brought a ring into the country and failed to declare the duty."
