Alan Clark (65) yesterday accepted he was a legitimate subject for criticism and satire because of his colourful sex life - but not as a politician.

The Tory MP was giving evidence on the second day of his High Court action over a newspaper's spoof of his racy diaries, which he says caused him a "great deal of personal embarrassment". He claims the London Evening Standard's weekly column, Alan Clark's Secret Political Diary, damages his reputation as a serious man of letters and historian.

A man who admitted stealing nude photographs of Elle Macpherson from her home and threatening to post them on the Internet if she did not pay him $80,000 has been sentenced in California to six years and eight months in prison.
