British comedian Freddie Starr slapped his teenage son during a bitter family row, a court heard yesterday. Starr (55), of Playhatch, Berkshire, admitted common assault when he appeared at Maidenhead Magistrates Court.

Magistrates conditionally discharged the entertainer after they heard how he had struck Jody (18) during a row at White Waltham airfield, Berkshire, where his son worked.

The victim of an alleged assault by Oasis star Liam Gallagher, has dropped criminal charges and will sue in the civil courts instead.

British backpacker Benjamin Russel Jones (19), suffered a broken nose, severe swelling and pain after an alleged headbutt from Gallagher during the group's tour of Australia earlier this year.

In March, Gallagher was released on bail of $10,000 Australian (around £4,000) after being charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

A post-mortem paternity test on French actor-singer Yves Montand more than six years after his death was inconclusive because his corpse was embalmed and his teeth were false, his former companion said in an interview yesterday.

Anne Fleurange, who claims Montand fathered her daughter, Aurore Drossart, told the newspaper France-Soir that the formaldehyde used for embalming the corpse had made a DNA test all but impossible.
