Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and Prince Edward attended last night's 50th birthday play staged for Prince Charles by his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

With help from Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry, the princes devised a comedy play, followed by a dinnerdance, for their father as an early birthday present. Camilla Parker Bowles was among the 100 guests at Highgrove, the prince's home in Gloucestershire.

Dad's Army veterans have regrouped to toast their series after three decades and praise the gentle humour from a golden age of comedy.

Four surviving stars - Clive Dunn, Bill Pertwee, Ian Lavender and Frank Williams - gathered with series writers David Croft and Jimmy Perry exactly 30 years since the first episode was shown. Dad's Army ran for nine series and 80 episodes, with more than 300 repeats.
