And he was modest about his new role. "It might very well be crap because I haven't a clue what we're going to do," he said. Asked how much he would be making, Mr Geldof said: "A lot." He added jokingly: "But even presidents have private lives."

Broadcaster Esther Rantzen believes former Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell could make it as a chat show queen - and put her out of a job. "She's got star quality when she's on the screen, you look at her," Ms Rantzen said of Jobless Spice.
