VILLAGERS in Qunu, Nelson Mandela's birthplace in the old Transkei black homeland, have given him land to farm, saying the South African President is probably wise enough at 77 to retire and come home.
"The decision was reached as a token of expressing the Thembu tribe's appreciation for the president's service to the people of South Africa, the liberation struggle and personal sacrifice and suffering," the triable elders said.
He accepted the gift and in return donated 150,000 rand (£26.000) of his own money for a community project.
