THE Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has dismissed suggestions that she viewed former national cricket captain Imran Khan as a rival and said she would welcome him into the political arena.

"I'm happy if Imran Khan wants to come into politics," she said during a visit to Indonesia. "I think more people should join the political world, and particularly sports people who have a name and reputation."

In the past, the prime minister, leader of the Pakistan People's Party, made little attempt to hide a dislike for Imran and virtually banned coverage of him by state run media.
