THE AVOWED love of the Prince of Wales, Camilla Parker Bowles, took a step into the limelight yesterday when she became patron of Britain's National Osteoporosis Society.

The society said that Parker Bowles (48) was interested in the cause because both her mother and grandmother died from the brittle bone disease. The new post increased speculation that her 20 year long relationship with Prince Charles may become more open after years of being cast by the media as the "other woman in the ill fated royal marriage. Charles and Princess Diana divorced last July after both admitted adultery during their 15 year marriage. Diana blamed some of the difficulties on Charles's relationship with Parker Bowles.

Baywatch boss David Hassellioff is to become a comic book super hero after signing a five film deal with 20th Century Fox.

Hasselhoff (44) will bring Marvel comic hero Nick Fury to life in Vancouver, Canada, in two weeks' time. He described the character as "like James Bond meets Blade Runner".

Gerald Piaget, a co founder of the Swiss watchmakers of the same name, died on Saturday at the age of 80 at Areuse, in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel, his family announced yesterday.

Piaget helped found the family business in the 1940s; with his father and brothers. The Piaget group, of which he had been director and president, was taken over in 1988 by the Richemont company.
