ACTRESS Jane Baxter, who for more than 50 year was one of Britain's most popular stage and screen actresses, has died after a long battle against cancer, aged 87, her family announced yesterday.
Baxter - the original star of the stage version of Dial M for Murder, which is currently being revived in the West End - was born Feodora Forde in 1909 in Bremen, the younger daughter of an Irish engineer, Henry Bligh Forde, and his German wife, Hedwig von Dieskau.
During a 53 year career her co stars included Sir John Gielgud and Sir Michael Redgrave.
