Almost 900 charities will receive £6.1 million in grants from the allocation of funds raised during Telethon 2000, The People In Need Trust announced today.
Funds that are raised in a county are allocated back to charitable organisations within that county.
Grants are allocated in six broad categories, with children and youth receiving £1,238,995; the elderly, £1,122,805; persons with disabilities £1,255,118 and the homeless are to receive £317,400.
There is a multipurpose section covering family resource centres that will receive £1,055,680.
The so called ‘other’ section is to receive £1,084,550 and it covers a range of services including rape crisis centres and hospices.
People in Need also announced the appointment of Dublin businessman and broadcaster, Mr David Harvey, as chairman of the Trust.
